| Jamie Lynn Shelton (Guest Belly Dance instructor & performer) has been bellydancing (or Raks Sharki, as it is more properly known) since 1994 when she fell head over heels in love with Middle Eastern Music. The drum rhythms and soulful quality of the music are her inspiration when dancing. A bellydancers ultimate goal is for the audience to feel as if the music is coming from the dancer, that she (or he) is not just dancing to it, but is it. She has studied with a variety of notable teachers from around the world, her first teacher being Pat Taylor from right here in Austin. She has taught bellydancing basics and intermediate classes in San Marcos at Texas State University as well as community classes. She regularly performs at Kapella's Greek Cafe in New Braunfels and was a regular performer at Ararat Restaurant in Austin for almost 10 years. |
